Description
The medical TV show House features one of their later tracks, but Massive Attack has been creating golden hip-hop tracks for over two decades. Initially under the guise of The Wild Bunch, DJs Mushroom, 3-D and Daddy-G from Bristol in the UK were responsible for forming what has been pigeonholed as trip-hop in the mid-80s, but others would brand as unique. Coming from musical roots of hip hop and reggae, Massive Attack delivered a sound unlike any other. Their melodic tracks kept to its roots, but with an electronic dosage that gave Massive Attack their place as something truly new.
From their debut release of ‘Blue Lines’ in 1991, they’ve had cameo artists like Shara Nelson, Tracy Thorn and Liz Fraser perform, survived Mushroom’s departure, and have now brought their latest album Heligoland to all who have waited. You'll find vocalists like Damon Albarn and Hope Sandoval on some of the tracks, but it's the group's expansion of creativity that gives Heligoland a stronger, more powerful sound.
