Description
Based on a true story and adapted from a book by Jon Ronson, Men Who Stare At Goats is the latest addition to the ever growing catalogue of Gulf war related films. However this film featuring a spaced out Jeff Bridges (no surprises there) and a mustachioed George Clooney bears much greater resemblance to the moralistic yet light hearted 3 Kings (1999, also staring Clooney) than the heart wrenching Valley of Elah (2007).
The plot is based around a naive journalist (Ewan McGregor) who sets off to Iraq in search of a story about the mystical and secretive New Earth Army rumored to use new-age hippy inspired tactics to defeat their enemies. All that stands in his way of a good story and spiritual enlightenment is the evil Larry Hooper (Kevin Spacey).
What begins as a comical romp through the deserts of Iraq ends with searing questions into US military conduct and the lingering question of could that really have happened?
